New Mat at the New Location

The mat cover just came in on Monday and man was it huge. The weight of the shipment was 196 pounds. I think that includes the wood pallet that it was on, but either way, it is big. We unfolded it and realized that it was a much bigger project than anticipated.

The first difficulty we faced was the corner by the front edge. We had to cut the cover to fit, but it was a nightmare figuring out how to fold it. Then came the really difficult part. That pole that is 6 feet from the wall, yeah, we had to figure out how to fit the mat cover around that without completely screwing it up. Needless to say that is today’s job (friday 11/13). There was no way we were going to be able to finish that without hurrying. As you know, that is not a job that you hurry. Luckily I have all day today.

Also, I want to say thank you to John M. He is the contractor who is also my student who is in charge of this project. Without him, we never would have been able to put the cover on in the first place. Much thanks to you John! Awesome work!

Are We Moving to a New Location?

That surely is the question of the year.  The rumors have been flying around lately.  However, the answer is almost definitely YES!

I am in negotiations with 2 different landlords in the same Professional Business Center that we are in now.  It turns out that both of them are very interested in having my business.  Both of them have made me offers that I cannot refuse.

Right now I am waiting to hear back from the landlord of my preferred location.  The place is 1440 square feet and perfectly designed for a Martial Arts Studio.  The ceilings are 9 feet tall (a little low), but I can raise them up to 10.5 feet in the front part of the dojo.

There is only one bathroom, but this only matters for people who are changing their clothes.  We don’t really have that much traffic anyways.  I am going to setup the back area as 2 dressing rooms so people do not need to use the bathroom at all to change.

Right now we have about 600 square feet of total mat area.  This is plenty big enough, but the new location will sport over 900 square feet for us!  If I work it right we may even be able to get1000 square feet of mat space!  The best part is that we don’t have to put the mats down and pick them back up every day.

Basically, I have been waiting for over 4 years for the day that I can negotiate my own lease.  Finally the time has come!  Only positive things can happen from here on out.
