Adult Ninjitsu Camp and Field Training

This weekend was the optional Adult Ninjitsu Camp.  We had 10 people including me and it was a ton of fun.  I love being the instructor because I get to decide what we are going to do.  It’s Great!  With a camp like that we can do basically whatever we want.  And trust me, we did just that.  It was just like the old days.  Running around in the mountains and setting up ambushes for people.  We threw knives, shurikens and even some hatchets at this homemade target board.

The best part, in my opinion, was the fighting in the dirt and pine needles.  That brought back memories.  You can totally slam someone out there and as long as they don’t land on a stick or a pine cone, it feels just like you are falling on the mat in the gym.  Sometimes it is even softer because your feet slide and the earth gives away.  Ahhhhh memories.

Thank you to all who participated in the 2009 Summer Adult Ninjitsu Camp!  It was the most fun I had all summer long.  Plus I got a chance to sharpen up my Ninjitsu techniques.

Stay tuned because we will be doing a one day repelling class.  We are going to go out to a similar location and learn how to repel off of the rocks.  Please email me if you are interested.  This class will be held in about a month or so.

Sierra Smackdown “Sport Jujitsu & Grappling” Tournament

We went to the Sierra Smackdown Tournament this last weekend, and it was a lot of fun.  The tournament was a Karate Tournament in Reno, NV at the Peppermill Hotel and Casino.  There were five rings for sparring and kata.  The karate sparring portion is called “kumite.”  The memorized forms that sometimes appear like a Martial Arts Dance are called “kata.”

Professor LL Cary and Champion Martial Arts were in charge of the Sport Jujitsu and Grappling portions of the tournament.  The tournament promoter thought that there would not be very many people competing in the Sport Jujitsu or Grappling divisions.  He made a huge mistake in thinking this way.  It turns out that over half of the total participants in the tournament did either Sport Jujitsu, Grappling or both.  Needless to say, the competition took a lot longer than expected.  We were so successful that they almost ran out of trophies!

Speaking of trophies, CONGRATULATIONS ABRI!  11 year old Abri C. from our South Reno Champion Martial Arts location took home 2 trophies.  She got a First Place in Karate Kumite fighting against Black Belts.  She also got Second Place in Sport Jujitsu.  Awesome Job Abri!  I will add a picture of her with her trophies as soon as her parents send me one.

UPDATE:  Professor Cary will be holding his very own Kumite, Kata, Sport Jujitsu and Grappling Tournament on November 14th!  Please clear your schedule and come out to support us.
